NCTE 2022 is right around the corner. I’ve been working on this for months as a member of the NCTE Secondary Steering Committee, and this time next week, I’ll be in California wrapping up another convention. It’s hard to believe. I’m really excited to be attending an in-person and learning from and seeing so many friends I haven’t seen in a few years. I’m also looking forward to meeting new people and connecting with those who have been a part of my virtual world for the past couple of years.
Here’s the official convention blurb: “This Convention offers access to more than 690 sessions led by literacy educators, for literacy educators. Centered around the theme, !Suenos! Pursuing the Light, this Convention will include sessions and messages specific to our time—finding the light for ourselves and for students while in a period of darkness, exacerbated by a worldwide pandemic. Join us as we share the ways our individual and collective pursuit of light has assisted and continues to assist us in imagining a new story with bright spots and new sueños (dreams) for ourselves, our students, and our communities.” (NCTE Conference website)
As a member of the NCTE Secondary Steering Committee, I’ll be in an all day meeting Thursday and a half day meeting on Sunday discussing pressing issues in English education. If there’s something on your mind that you feel would be important for us to discuss (other than book banning, censorship, lack of respect for teachers, education burning down all around, etc) and how NCTE can support teachers, feel free to reach out
I asked in the AP Lit Facebook group who would be presenting and am listing the replies here. If you’re not on here and read the newsletter or or site, let me know, and I’ll be glad to add you. Names of people who submitted and times are in the caption below the session summary. Sessions are listed in the order they appear in the program.
